Trying to cancel a Kanopy subscription? Here’s the twist: Kanopy doesn’t sell a monthly plan to individuals. You watch for free with a public library card or university login. So “cancelling” usually means removing your library from Kanopy or deleting your Kanopy account. If you’re seeing recurring charges, they’re almost certainly from Apple/Google app-store subscriptions to other services—not Kanopy. We’ll walk you through every path below. (Kanopy)

Table of contents

Before You Cancel

  • Kanopy isn’t a personal subscription. Access is provided by your library or university; they foot the bill. You sign in with your library card/university credentials. (Kanopy)

  • Monthly limits use “tickets.” Libraries give you a set number of tickets that reset monthly. No rollover. (help.kanopy.com)

  • You can disconnect a library or delete your entire account. Both options are in Kanopy’s account settings (details below). (help.kanopy.com)

  • Charges on your card? Kanopy itself doesn’t charge viewers. Check for unrelated App Store/Google Play subscriptions and cancel those directly. (Apple Support)

Remove a Library From Your Kanopy Account (Web)

Use this if you just want to stop access from a specific library (without deleting your account).

Step-by-step (desktop or mobile web browser)

Step 1 — Sign inGo to kanopy.com and log in.

Step 2 — My LibrariesClick the menu (top-right) → My Account → My Libraries. (help.kanopy.com)

Step 3 — Delete the libraryClick the three dots next to the library → Delete. Note: removing libraries is not available in the mobile app—use the website for this step. (help.kanopy.com)

Delete Your Kanopy Account

Want to delete your profile entirely? Do this from the Kanopy mobile app, or contact support.

On iPhone/Android (fastest)

  1. Open the Kanopy app → More → Settings.

  2. Tap Delete Account → sign in (if prompted) → Yes, delete my account. (help.kanopy.com)

On other platforms

If you can’t access the app, reach Kanopy Support and request account deletion (include the email tied to your Kanopy account). (help.kanopy.com)

Need help? Libraries often list Kanopy’s support email (support@kanopy.com) for patrons. (epls.org)

If You’re Seeing Charges: Cancel via Apple or Google

Kanopy itself doesn’t bill you. If a line on your statement made you search for “cancel Kanopy,” check and cancel App Store or Google Play subscriptions that might be the real source.

iPhone/iPad (Apple)

  1. Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

  2. Select the service you want to stop → Cancel Subscription. (Apple Support)

Android / Google Play

  1. Open Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.

  2. Choose the service → Cancel subscription and follow prompts. (Uninstalling an app does not cancel a subscription.) (Google Help)

What Happens After You “Cancel”

  • Removing a library simply means you won’t be able to use that library’s tickets or catalog. If you’ve added multiple libraries, you can keep watching via the others—and switch between them any time. (help.kanopy.com)

  • Deleting your account removes your Kanopy profile and its linked libraries. You can always create a new account later. (help.kanopy.com)

Troubleshooting

I can’t delete a library in the app. Correct—Kanopy only lets you remove libraries on the website (My Account → My Libraries). Use a browser. (help.kanopy.com)

My library shows “Action required.” That means your card/PIN needs updating with the library; re-enter credentials or contact your library for help, then reactivate. (help.kanopy.com)

I forgot which email I used. Libraries advise contacting Kanopy support via the help center/contact form if you can’t log in. (help.metrolibrary.org)

I still need assistance. Use Kanopy’s Help Center or support email noted by many libraries (support@kanopy.com). (help.kanopy.com)

FAQ

Is Kanopy a paid subscription? For viewers, no. It’s funded by your public library or university; you sign in with your card or campus login. (Kanopy)

Where do I remove my library? On the website: My Account → My Libraries → three dots → Delete. (help.kanopy.com)

How do I delete my account on mobile? App → More → Settings → Delete Account → confirm. (help.kanopy.com)

I’m being charged every month—what gives? That’s likely not Kanopy. Check Apple/Google subscriptions and cancel there. (Apple Support)

Final Thoughts

Because Kanopy access comes from your library or university, there’s no personal subscription to cancel. To “cancel,” either remove your library in My Libraries or delete your Kanopy account in the app. If you’re seeing recurring charges, use your Apple/Google subscriptions page to stop them—they’re almost certainly unrelated to Kanopy.
