1. Check Your Bank or Card Statement
Find the transaction with the subscription charge: note the date, amount, and merchant (it may show “APPLE,” “GOOGLE,” “AMZN,” “PAYPAL,” or the direct service name).
This info helps determine which platform you subscribed through.
2. Try to Recover Your Login Credentials
Go to the subscription service’s website and use the “Forgot Password” option with your possible email addresses.
Check all your email inboxes (including Spam/Promotions) for messages about free trials, receipts, or password resets.
If you manage to reset your password, log in and cancel your subscription right away.
3. Contact Customer Support
When you reach out to support, provide:
Full name or possible usernames/account names.
Last 4 digits of your card, payment date, amount, and a screenshot of the charge.
Explain you can’t remember the email and ask them to locate your subscription via payment info and process a cancellation/refund.
Sample message:
Hi, I was charged after a trial period, but I can’t remember which email I used to sign up. I’ve attached my payment information (date, amount, last 4 digits of card). Can you help locate my subscription and process a refund? I haven’t used the service beyond the trial.
4. For Apple/Google/Amazon Subscriptions
Apple:
Go to reportaproblem.apple.com
Try signing in with all Apple IDs you’ve ever used.
Search for the subscription. If you find it, request a refund via “Report a Problem.”
Google Play:
Check all Google accounts you might’ve used.
Look under Subscriptions in Google Play (“Payments & subscriptions”).
Request a refund using Google Play’s support form.
Amazon:
Log into your Amazon account.
Go to Memberships & Subscriptions and look for the charge or trial.
Cancel and contact support if you have trouble.
5. If You Still Can’t Cancel or Get a Refund
Email or submit support tickets to the service, attaching evidence of payment.
If there’s no response or a denial, dispute the charge with your bank/credit card company—provide support emails and payment records, citing unauthorized/accidental renewal.
For recurring charges, request your bank to block future payments to the merchant.
Final Tips
Don’t give up: Many refunds are issued once you show proof of payment, even if you can’t access the original account.
Set calendar reminders for all future trial periods and use a notes app to record which email/card you use for new subscriptions.
This process helps you recover lost money—or at the very least, stop unwanted charges—even if you forgot which email you signed up with.
