You’re not the only one. A lot of “AI” tools promoted through Facebook ads sign you up fast, then renew quietly. The fix is simple, but only if you cancel in the right place (the platform that’s actually billing you).

Step 1: Find out who is billing you (this matters most)
Open your bank or card statement and look at the merchant name next to the £60 charge. Then search your email for the receipt using:
the merchant name
“receipt”
“subscription”
“trial”
“invoice”
If you can identify the billing platform, use the matching path below.
Step 2: Cancel where you subscribed
If you subscribed on iPhone (Apple)
Cancel in Apple Subscriptions (deleting the app is not enough). (Apple Support)
Settings → your name → Subscriptions → find the app/service → Cancel Subscription
If you subscribed on Android (Google Play)
Cancel in Google Play subscriptions (uninstalling the app won’t cancel). (Google Help)
Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Cancel subscription
If you paid with PayPal
Cancel the automatic payment inside PayPal. (PayPal)
PayPal → Settings → Payments → Automatic Payments / Subscriptions → select merchant → cancel/stop
If it’s billed inside Facebook/Meta (less common, but possible)
Facebook has a subscriptions hub/help flow for certain Meta subscriptions. (Facebook)If the charge is Meta-related, check your Accounts Center / subscription settings and cancel there.
Step 3: If you can’t find the cancel button (or it feels scammy)
Do these in order:
Email the merchant (from the receipt) and say:
“Cancel my subscription immediately and confirm in writing. I do not authorize further charges.”
Ask your card issuer to stop recurring paymentsIn the UK, you can ask your card provider to stop a recurring card payment, even if the merchant is unresponsive. (FCA)
Dispute the charge (chargeback / Section 75)If you were misled or couldn’t cancel, ask your bank about chargeback and what evidence they need. (UK Finance)Citizens Advice also outlines how to stop future card payments and next steps if money is taken. (Citizens Advice)
Quick checklist to avoid getting charged again
Save a screenshot of the cancellation confirmation page.
Keep the cancellation email (if any).
Set a reminder 2–3 days before the next renewal date.
If you used PayPal or a card, also remove/stop the automatic payment (not just “delete account”).
